Privacy Policy
The Maketa (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates themaketa.com and related online learning services. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
We collect information in the following ways:
Information you provide
- Account details — name, email address, and password when you create an account or sign in.
- Social sign-in — if you use Google, Facebook, or Apple to sign in, we receive basic profile information from that provider (such as your name and email address) as permitted by your account settings with them.
- Course activity — enrollments, lesson progress, certificates, and community posts or questions you submit on the platform.
- Payments — when you purchase a paid course, payment is processed by Paystack. We receive transaction references and payment status; we do not store your full card or bank details on our servers.
- Forms and inquiries — information you submit through contact, booking, newsletter, lead capture, or masterclass forms (such as name, email, phone number, and message content).
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — pages visited, features used, referring URLs, and general interaction with the site.
- Device and browser data — IP address, browser type, operating system, and approximate location derived from IP.
- Cookies and similar technologies — we use cookies and related tools to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and measure site performance. See Section 8 below.
2. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate sign-in
- Provide access to courses, track progress, and issue certificates
- Process payments and confirm enrollments
- Operate student community features, including live sessions and Q&A
- Respond to inquiries, bookings, and support requests
- Send service-related emails (such as account verification, receipts, or course updates)
- Send marketing communications where you have opted in or where permitted by law
- Improve our website, courses, and user experience
- Measure advertising performance and understand how visitors find us
- Protect against fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Comply with legal obligations
3. Legal bases for processing
Where applicable under data protection law (including Nigeria's NDPR and, for users in the EEA/UK, the GDPR), we rely on one or more of the following:
- Contract — to provide the services you sign up for (e.g. course access)
- Consent — for optional marketing, certain cookies, or where you choose social sign-in
- Legitimate interests — to improve our platform, prevent fraud, and understand site usage, balanced against your rights
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information by law
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with trusted service providers who help us operate the platform, including:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and hosting of account and course data
- Paystack — payment processing for paid courses
- Vercel — website hosting and delivery
- Resend — transactional and notification email delivery
- Meta (Facebook) — analytics and advertising measurement via the Meta Pixel
- Google, Facebook, and Apple — when you choose to sign in with those providers
These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies and contractual safeguards. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition).
5. International data transfers
The Maketa is based in Nigeria. Our service providers may process data in Nigeria and other countries. Where data is transferred internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place consistent with applicable law.
6. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide our services, fulfil the purposes described in this policy, and meet legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. When information is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it within a reasonable period.
Account and course progress data are generally retained while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account subject to any records we must keep by law (for example, payment records).
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Request deletion of your information
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Opt out of marketing emails via the unsubscribe link in any message
To exercise these rights, contact us at response@themaketa.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding. If you are in Nigeria, you may also lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
8. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the site and understand how it is used. These may include:
- Essential cookies — required for sign-in, security, and core functionality
- Analytics and advertising cookies — including the Meta Pixel, which helps us measure visits and ad performance. Meta may collect information about your activity on our site and other sites. You can learn more in Meta's Privacy Policy.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may affect sign-in and course access.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and secure third-party infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's privacy
Our services are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

Our site may link to external websites or services (such as social networks or payment pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing information to them.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be communicated by email or a notice on the site. Continued use of our services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
